The only &amp;quot;open&amp;quot; way you can connect the iPhone/iPod to anything is using WIFI.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There is a hardware program for manufacturers to attempt to create peripherals that COULD directly connect, but the approval process for hardware is probably even more insane than the software!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Check this out: http://developer.apple.com/technologies/iphone/sdk/accessories.html&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I am plotting next steps with my gauge - currently it connects to the Alltrax controller via serial cable, and uses a bicycle-like magnetic sensor for speed/distance.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The iPhone version, &amp;quot;iTronbike&amp;quot; uses wifi to talk to a Linux ARM computer with a wifi hub.
