Earth Day 2008

Today was the REAL Earth Day, April 22nd. I had been confused since it was all over the press all weekend and week and just kept on going.

I had skipped the AM bicycle ride, then rode the e-moto into work, then back home, then back to work, then offered a quick demonstration at 1 pm in honor of Earth Day. So at 1 I did a little show and tell to a new crowd, its beginning to almost feel automatic. I need to make the bike easier to take apart for these demos, it looks so ordinary that the coolness is not so obvious to the non-motorcycler. The plug gets the best comments and reaction, it really is a strange juxtaposition coming out of the gas tank and basically sums it all up.

Then home I went again, fearing rain, and riding back on a truly green machine, a bicycle.

I've read your blog for a while. I have taken a interest in perhaps doing a project like this some day when I don't have the money going towards college. Reading the article about the Enertia bike and combining that with being a loyal fan of American Chopper has me even more interested.

You seem to have had a lot of fun making this bike. Do you have any future plans of painting it or anything?

Future plan is to really do a car, I'm too old and scared to be riding motorcycles around :)

Yes, its been a lot of fun, an all consuming project in my limited schedule. I keep hunting for more bikes to convert despite wanting out of the moto-game, I'd like to learn how to weld for 2.x.

I have been pondering paint and body work, but the fairings are in pretty good shape - I don't think I could do better myself in this department. I like the stock look too - if I went at it, I'd end up with some nasty day-glow yellow and white combo with sparkles. The "please don't hit me you stupid driver" special.

Any resources I put into it have to be in either power generation to charge it up and/or to change the battery technology. See the "EV Out of Gas" story, sealed lead acid is really limited.
